Minnesota Computers for Schools is a finalist for the Minnesota Technology Association 2021 Tekne Awards in the Tech Talent category, which highlights the important work being done by organizations helping to address our tech talent gap. For the past two decades, the Tekne Awards have recognized organizations that are leading-edge innovators in science and technology throughout Minnesota. The 2021 Tekne Awards celebration on November 17 will reveal winners among the finalists in 13 categories.
We are a finalist in the Tech Talent category because of our CORE: IT programming. Our free CORE: IT Certification Training program offers curriculum to build foundational knowledge and skills for professional readiness. Students of all ages can earn certifications to put on resumes, explore careers in the IT field, and gain experience through hands-on learning. Upon receiving a certification, students are eligible to earn a free laptop to help them network and apply for jobs.
Our classes start with basic digital literacy and advance to network administration, providing students a laddered curriculum that can end with a job in IT. In addition to providing industry-recognized Cisco and CompTIA certifications, our classes provide students with soft skills training including resume writing, time management, and interview skills.
