CORE: IT Certification Training

Preparing Students for Success

Jeremiah Fuller, Student, CISCO IT Essentials at Minneapolis Urban League

Today, it’s nearly impossible to gain employment without knowing basic computer skills. Unfortunately, many individuals and disenfranchised people don’t have the computer skills that are crucial to success in school and the workforce.

MCFS works with schools and nonprofits to teach disadvantaged students computer literacy and improve academic achievement and economic stability by providing computers, software, technology skills training and employment readiness education.

Curriculum Offered

Adult Programs

  • Digital Foundations: Gives students a starting point to learn basic digital literacy and allows them to boost their confidence and speed with computers. Students learn how to create a professional Gmail email address, how to use Google Drive, how to write and edit a resume and how to use a flash drive. At the end of the course, students have the chance to earn the Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate.
  • Cisco IT Essentials: Adults are guided through the Cisco IT Essentials curriculum, which provides an introduction to the computer hardware and software skills needed to help meet the growing demand for entry-level ICT professionals.
  • CompTIA A+: A+ certification is the next step after completing Cisco IT Essentials. The class validates understanding of the most common hardware and software technologies in business and certifies the skills necessary to support complex IT infrastructures.
  • CompTIA IT Fundamentals: Provides students with the basic skills and concepts required to maintain, support, and work with personal computers. This course teaches technical skills and information on set up, configuration and troubleshooting on simple wireless devices, primary hardware and software components.
  • Website Design and Development: Using STEM Fuse Website Design curriculum, students are introduced to website design and development.
